Data Policy

Last updated: June 2025 · How we fetch, store, and protect your data.

What Data We Fetch

Channel Radar fetches data from the YouTube Data API v3 and optionally the YouTube Analytics API on your behalf. This includes:

  • Channel metadata: name, description, subscriber count, view count, video count.
  • Video metadata: title, description, publish date, view count, like count, comment count.
  • YouTube Analytics (OAuth only): Daily aggregates of views, watch time (minutes), average view duration, likes, and subscriber gains. Fetched only for channels you own and have explicitly authorized. Never fetched for competitor channels.

All data fetched is either publicly available or explicitly authorized by you via OAuth. We never access data beyond what is needed to operate the dashboard.

How Data Is Stored

  • All data stored in PostgreSQL via Supabase (AWS infrastructure).
  • Encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+).
  • YouTube API key: Encrypted using AES-256-GCM before storage. Plaintext value is never written to the database.
  • OAuth refresh token: Encrypted using AES-256-GCM before storage. Used only to obtain access tokens when fetching analytics on your behalf. Never logged or exposed.
  • Row-level security (RLS) ensures each user can only access their own data.
  • Internal access to the database requires deliberate, multi-step effort — encrypted fields are unreadable without the encryption key, which is stored separately from the database.

Data Sync & Retention

  • Manual sync: Available to all users on demand.
  • Auto-sync (Pro): Configurable — daily or every 6/12 hours.
  • Analytics cache: Temporary API responses stored for up to 48 hours, then automatically purged.
  • Daily analytics history: Stored per channel per day, retained for up to 3 years.
  • Deleted channels are removed from our database immediately.
  • Upon account deletion, all data is purged within 30 days.
